Find ski buddies in Tokyo
Tokyo's riders are spoilt by the shinkansen. The Joetsu line runs to Echigo-Yuzawa in Niigata, where resorts like Kagura, Naeba, Maiko and Kandatsu are a short transfer away, and Gala Yuzawa even has its own station in winter. Day trips from the city are completely normal. For longer trips, the Hokuriku line heads to Nagano, the gateway to Hakuba, and plenty of people drive up the Kan-Etsu Expressway on weekends. Tokyo's huge riding community includes many foreign residents, so it's easy to find people to share a train, a car or a weekend.
