Vallecitos, a small, high area in the Cordón del Plata, is the closest, and Portillo is across the border in Chile via the main pass over the Andes. Las Leñas, in the south of the province near Malargüe, is the big destination, known for steep off-piste terrain, and many make it a long weekend. Snow can be variable and the pass sometimes closes, so locals watch for good storms and move quickly. The scene is small and friendly.
