Southern Finland is flat, but Helsinki's riders make good use of the hills they have. Serena in Espoo and Messilä near Lahti are popular for evening sessions and weekend practice, and Himos in central Finland is a bigger weekend option. For proper fell riding, people head north to Levi and Ylläs in Lapland or Ruka in Kuusamo, often by overnight train or a flight. Long dark winters mean floodlit slopes are normal, and spring trips north, when the light returns, are a highlight for many.
