Find ski buddies in Auckland
Auckland riders have the North Island's volcano and the South Island's big resorts to choose from. Mount Ruapehu, home to Whakapapa and Turoa, is the main road trip, usually a long weekend driving south through the Waikato. The weather on the mountain is notoriously changeable, so plans need to stay flexible. Many Aucklanders also fly south to Queenstown for Coronet Peak, The Remarkables and Cardrona, or to Christchurch for Mt Hutt. Club lodges on Ruapehu are part of the culture, and they're a good way to meet a regular crew.
